Resources

Welcome to the Resources page! Here, in addition to the blog, we’ve got tons of helpful tools that will aid you in jumpstarting your career as a writer. Please keep in mind that much of this material is not my own and I am NOT claiming it as such. However, this content is unmonetized and I just wanted to help any and all struggling writers out there.

Writing Videos

Brandon Sanderson’s Youtube Channel

The following are a series of lectures Brandon Sanderson gave at a writing class at BYU on writing Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Below is another video I found detailing Sanderson’s top ten things he wished he knew as a teen writer. Even if you’re not a teen writer, I highly recommend watching the video.

The Writers of the Future Online Writing Course and Workshop

This online course, hosted by David Farland, Tim Powers, and Orson Scott Card, is free to all who wish to use it and goes through the basics of telling a story. The Online Workshop can be found here.

Film Courage’s Youtube Channel

Film Courage is not necessarily a story writing guild, but (as the name suggests) they are obsessed with all things pertaining to film. However, scriptwriters and fiction authors share a lot in common, especially when it comes to the basic plotting points of stories, character arcs, etc. Check ’em out if you’ve got the time.

Music

Here’s some great music I found on YouTube. I find it very effective for writing my blog posts and books. While I find pirate-themed music to be the best for writing anything with a lot of action, I’ve included a few other suggestions as well.

If you have any suggestions for unmonetized, free roaming content out there in the wild that you’d like to see catalogued here, feel free to shoot me an email at thewritersrack.com@gmail.com!
